Find answers to common questions about using What's for Dinner

Getting Started

How do I add my first recipe?

Sign in to your account, click on "Create Recipe" in the navigation tabs, then fill in your recipe name, category (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks), ingredients, and cooking instructions. You can also add a photo to make your recipe more visual!

What's the difference between the Free, Cook, and Head Chef plans?

The Free plan allows up to 25 recipes, Cook allows 50 recipes for $5/month, and Head Chef allows 75 recipes for $10/month. All plans include the same core features - the main difference is recipe storage capacity.

Can I import recipes from other apps or websites?

Currently, you'll need to manually add recipes by copying and pasting the information or copying recipes from the Explore page. We're working on import features for future updates!

Using Random Recipes

How does the random recipe selector work?

Simply select a category (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks) and click "Select random recipe". The app will randomly choose one of your saved recipes from that category. It's perfect for when you can't decide what to cook!

Can I exclude certain recipes from random selection?

Currently all recipes in a category can be randomly selected. If you don't want a recipe to appear, you can temporarily move it to a different category or delete it.

What if I don't like the randomly selected recipe?

No problem! Just click "Try another" and you'll get a different random recipe from the same category.

Managing Recipes

How do I edit a recipe?

Go to "Saved Recipes", click on the recipe you want to edit, then click the "Edit" button. You can update any field including the name, ingredients, instructions, photo, or category.

Can I delete recipes?

Yes! In your "Saved Recipes" view, hover over any recipe card and click the red trash icon that appears. You'll be asked to confirm before the recipe is permanently deleted.

How do I organize recipes by category?

When creating or editing a recipe, you can assign it to one of four categories: breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks. You can then filter your saved recipes by category using the category tabs.

Can I add photos to my recipes?

Absolutely! When creating or editing a recipe, you can upload an image file. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, and other common image types.

Sharing & Community

Can I share my recipes with others?

Yes! When creating or editing a recipe, you can toggle "Make Public" to share it with the community. Public recipes appear on the Explore page where anyone can view and copy them to their own collection.

How do I find recipes shared by others?

Visit the Explore page to see a timeline of public recipes shared by the community. You can browse recipes from home cooks around the world and copy any you like to your own collection.

If I copy someone's recipe, do they get notified?

No, copying is silent. When you copy a recipe, it creates your own private version that you can customize however you like.

Account & Billing

How do I upgrade my plan?

Click on "Upgrade Plan" in the subscription status bar at the top of your dashboard, or visit the Pricing page. You can upgrade at any time and your new limit takes effect immediately.

What happens if I reach my recipe limit?

You'll see a warning when you're approaching your limit. Once you reach the maximum, you won't be able to create new recipes until you either delete some recipes or upgrade your plan.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes, you can cancel anytime. Your recipes will remain accessible, but your recipe limit will return to the Free plan limit (25 recipes) at the end of your billing period.

Is my data safe?

Yes! We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data. Your recipes are stored securely and backed up regularly. Read our Privacy Policy for more details.

Troubleshooting

My recipe photo isn't uploading. What should I do?

Make sure your image file is under 10MB and in a common format (JPG, PNG, WEBP). If the issue persists, try using a different browser or clearing your browser cache.

I accidentally deleted a recipe. Can I get it back?

Unfortunately, deleted recipes cannot be recovered. We recommend double-checking before confirming deletion. We're working on an "undo" feature for future updates!

The app isn't loading properly. What should I try?

First, try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work, clear your browser cache and cookies, or try accessing the app in an incognito/private window. Make sure you're using a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge).
